Anyone know how to set up Kinect to run your PACS like these guys? http://www.thestar.com/news/article/960393--video-game-technology-tried-in-opera ting-room http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6CT-YDChmE&feature=youtube_gdata_player |

(Commercial) We have this working in our lab. we call it AmbiTHEATRE. We will release it around UKRC time... maybe at UKRC - I think it has some relevance for a sterile environment, where a mouse and keyboard would be problematic. I have a few videos of it being used if you want to see it. Tom |

Hi Peng, Display technology for medical images & documents needs to meet the requirements of the future. These indeed are futuristic vision of display. Dr. Tom Bowles did show us some emerging futuristic display technologies that will be available, if we allow for innovation to come back into NHS IT. There are people like Tom & other companies working to improve display for healthcare. Our blue sky thinking is now available--thanks to developers like Tom. It is for NHS to make the right strategic moves. A statement made by Dirco van Norden (Rogan Delft) in his presentation aptly captures the ethos of what we as a group have been asking for interoperability---competition---innovation. |

A surgical colleague has a Kinect which he would like to bring in to test, and even has funds to buy one for the hospital (cheap at £250 compared to any 'medical grade' device). I think all we need is a program ... We would be delighted to test out AmbiTHEATRE or any similar product in our hospital in a clinical environment. My new interventional colleague is also very keen. We have a brand new state-of-the-art combined vascular lab and interventional theatre, which I am told is the finest in Europe, with multiple ginormous monitors that would look very cool in an advert or video. We can also provide a Mac laptop running Osirix (which is what the Swiss team used for their product). If anyone would like to collaborate, please get in touch immediately :-) |

Great, thanks, lets do that.. we're looking for some places where we can record some videos.. the bigger the screen the better. We're probably 2 weeks away from having a first release, then feedback stage.. so very happy for you to have a copy of AmbiTheatre. Tom |

We are very interested in showing the KINECCT at the NIH Operating Room. Our surgeons are really interested in the technology. Do you know if the software to integrate with the DICOM applications is available? Is the software open source? This will resolve a lot head aches for the surgeons trying to manipulate the images while performing surgery. Looking forward to it. Thanks Taimoore |

Hello Ritesh, Thank you for the link. Kinect has some advantages and some disadvantages that I think these new devices may improve the gesture controls. http://www.threegear.com/ http://www.primesense.com/market/healthcare/ Google Glass http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/philips-collaborates-with-accenture-to-c reate-first-proof-of-concept-for-delivering-vital-patient-data-via-google-glass- 226284291.html I think google glass has far much more potential for review pacs in the OR using both gesture controls as well as voice recognition and much much more. |
