This year we are very lucky to have Dr. Nicola Strickland standing for elections as President. Nicola has been a founder member of this Group. She has devoted a lot of time & effort in development of PACS--Hammersmith was the first filmless hospital in the world. Recently she has been campaigning for regional on-call using in-sourced teleradiology (She spoke on this at the 6th Nov Meeting of the Group). Busy night on-call is a huge problem in DGHs--she understands this. Modern day radiology is dependent on technology. We need a President who understands this.
Nicola Strickland has the qualities, insights, competencies, and track record to lead Radiology in the difficult times ahead--AQP, outsourced teleradiology, increasing workload & shrinking budgets, all leading to low morale amongst radiologists & which then filters down to other departmental staff.
I will be voting for Nicola. I would request radiologists who read this forum-- please don't waste your vote. Please exercise your democratic rights.
Voting for the next president of the RCR will commence on the 21st January. For those who are RCR members please note that no paper voting forms will be sent to you (unless The College has no email address for you). If The College holds the wrong email address for you, then you won't be able to vote. Update your email address with the College urgently by sending it to Christine_mellors@rcr.ac.uk
Voting forms have been sent to RCR members on e-mail. If you have not received the forms, please do contact the College.
Next 3 years are going to be vital. With Health & Social Care Bill being passed, we are in a brave new world of any qualified provider for teleradiology reporting. We need a leadership that cares about clinical quality to NHS patients & professional standards & also understands the role of technology in patient care. Please do vote & vote wisely.
