Does anyone have any experience/advice on connectivity between PACS and PET/CT. Are there any specific DICOM classes that are required for this modality and are there any 'new' classes emerging in the near future?

It really depends what role you wish your PACS to fulfil.

If you just want to archive reconstructed images I don't think there's a problem excepting the 'private fields' issue. All information required for quantification should be preserved but you'd need to check this for your particular scanner/PACS combination.

For diagnostic image review you'll need a dedicated PET-CT workstation, althouth some CT/radiology consoles (such as the GE AW) have a plug-in fusion viewing module. There are many companies who can provide such systems.

For image review on generic PACS workstations there doesn't seem to be any real support beyond the use of 'Sliced alternating DICOM series' which wouldn't be diagnostic as colour scales etc. are not adjustable.
