This is an established position, demanding a highly motivated person with excellent organisational, administrative, IT and communication skills.
The successful candidate will be an effective member of PACSnet, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency’s PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) national evaluation team. PACSnet carry out evaluations of PACS solutions, related equipment and software. Based at St. George’s Hospital, PACSnet is seen as the UK centre of expertise in PACS evaluation and aims to deliver professional information to assist the implementation of PACS solutions in the NHS.
This role is to assist in the provision of advice on PACS computer networks and their assessment techniques to the NHS and other organisations as appropriate and to take the lead role in the evaluation of communication networks and networking technology for PACS. This is an exciting opportunity to help define the methods and standards in this area.
For appointment on Clinical Scientist Grade: Good Honours Degree BSc in Physics, or equivalent qualification with a minimum of 4 years relevant experience (working in Medical Physics, or closely related scientifically based area).
For appointment on A&C grade: Good Honours Degree BSc in Information Technology, or Computing or equivalent qualification with a minimum of 4 years relevant experience (working in Computer Networks, internet and intranet or closely related computing based areas).
The successful candidate must have in-depth knowledge and experience of LAN & WAN computer systems, networks and their software. Experience of network cabling infrastructures (e.g. CAT5 & Fibre-optic), routers, hubs & switches is essential.
The successful candidate must also be skilled in writing technical reports and have knowledge of methods for evaluating IT technology, and skills in applying these methods. Experience with PACS is desirable, but not essential.
The PACS network evaluator will join a multi-disciplinary team evaluating PACS technology, both in assessing technical performance at sub-system level and in assessing the performance of the whole system.
Extended travel, including internationally, is expected and in-service training will be possible for candidates with potential.
